O2 Join the ‘How Many Minutes Left’ Club (Albeit Badly)

myo2-logoFollowing on from our comparative review of ‘Mobile Allowance’ and ‘Mobile Minutes Tracker’ (see previous posts here and here) O2 have now released their ‘My O2′ app. According to their AppStore description it allows users to see their remaining minutes and texts and their tariff, bolt-ons and calling plan prices. Those with a Pay Monthly contract can view recent charges (e.g. premium texts and roaming charges) and view bill summaries and payment dates.

This is all very nice in theory. In practise, however, it is somewhat different…

myo2-failMy personal experience is not good – it simply won’t log in and returns a ‘Network Unavailable’ error. I could believe that a free app released by O2 would maybe cause some server overload but both ‘Mobile Allowance’ and ‘Mobile Minutes Tracker’ connected to the (same) server without any issues. I’m not the only one with problems either, if the AppStore reviews are anything to go by. One in every three of the reviews gives the same error as I received. Maybe it’s an OS3.1 issue, or maybe it’s because I have 2 account numbers with O2 (see previous comparative review) but both the other apps handle these fine.

Our recommendation? Don’t be so cheap and go grab Mobile Allowance for a mere 59p! IT – JUST – WORKS!!

I’ve always used Mobile Allowance (and still do) but I thought I’d try the O2 app. It didn’t connect at first but I was behind the company firewall, so switched WiFi off and it has worked OK since. Also on OS3.1 but only one O2 account.

Even over GPRS and EDGE I get the same error. It’s certainly not a password issue because if I put the wrong password it tells me the login is incorrect as opposed to ‘Network unavailable’.

Mobile Minutes Tracker for O2 is really good only a bit better than mobile allowance

I downloaded it this morning and found that it worked very well (on my home wi-fi). I am trying it now on Edge and am getting a server error. The other two programmes have both logged on without a problem.

Absolutely no problems with this at all, both using 3G and WiFi. It’s comprehensive and also gives you bill information and due dates, requiring only a 4 digit pin to sign in. Worth installing 100%
