In a slightly unusual move Apple have released the iPhone OS update before the new devices hit the stores. Normally it is the other way round.
One of the main bugbears with the iPhone is the lack of multitasking functionality. The new iPhone OS iOS 4 introduces multitasking, but it is not inherent. One of the main bugbears with the iPhone is the lack of multitasking functionality. The new iPhone OS iOS 4 introduces multitasking, but it is not inherent. The developers need to code specifically to allow multitasking. TomTom have announced that the next version of thier software will support both iOS 4 and multitasking.
This means that you will be able to run your Turn by Turn navigation app alongside your favorite Speed Camera Warning app (assuming that supports multitasking too).

Grab it here and enjoy speedier web access over GPRS and EDGE! Not only that but it also features various search features (eBay, Google, Amazon, Wikipedia), search for text on a page, copy/paste text, bookmarks, the now familiar Opera home page with multiple ‘favourite’ blocks and quick previews of the current tabs/pages you have open.

Most of the news surrounding the pending release of OS4 has focused on the major updates like multitasking and app folders. Admittedly, these are nice features (although as a 3G owner I don’t get to play with multitasking) but there are a number of others that seem to have been overlooked. There are also a number of bugs but it’s beta software so they should be expected and, as such, I won’t bother writing about them!
Having played with the 3G version of OS4 for a few days there are a few new features that are quite small but are really useful.
